Believers tend to focus on man’s outward godliness, zeal, sacrifice, gifts, etc, but do not understand things of the heart. Those who are ignorant towards things of the heart often have no assurance of their lives, and do not know how to discern who is favored by the Lord. Lord Jesus came to this earth, chose a group of disciples who seemed to be weak, powerless, and with easily wavered faith. He was with them, taught and trained them, sent and used them. However, when many others wanted to follow Jesus on their own initiative, the Lord said: “Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head”, the Lord seemed to decline them. There was a young official who kept all the commandments since young, but he still did not made it through in the Lord’s eyes. Why is this so? The reason lies in “the Lord does not look at what man looks at, man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” Although some people are filled with zeal and fervor, their hearts do not truly know the mysteries of only God’s word, only Jesus, only Holy Spirit, and only prayer. They often mix man’s affairs with God’s affairs, thus their godly appearance cannot bring about godly power. However, some others’ hearts can recognize the voice of the Lord. No matter how weak they are temporarily, they will eventually walk the path of submission to the Lord, thus their lives are constantly being anointed and used by God. Matters of the heart is a mystery, it cannot be judged by man’s outward appearance, but it can only be discerned when the pure Christ faith is being proclaimed. Therefore, through the Bible, the Lord instructs us to distinguish spirits. Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, if not, it comes from the world. The state of a man’s spirit will determine how blessed his heart is before God.
